🔴What is Optimism Superchain?

The Optimism Superchain is a horizontally scalable network of chains that share Optimism's security, communication layer, and open source development stack.

Here is a brief, but proper noun description of the Optimism ecosystem.

• OP Mainnet: the Ethereum L2 chain we recognize as Optimism. As described below, OP Mainnet is positioned as one chain of Superchain, and Optimism is currently focused on promoting Superchain.

• OP Stack:A development kit that makes it easy to build anOPRullup L2 chain. It is available as open source.

• Optimism Superchain:a generic name for a network of chains built using theOPStack that also share a more intimate security and communication layer.

• Optimism Collective: Optimism's decision-making body (≈DAO), structured by two governance models, Citizen House and Token House, to promote decentralized governance.

• Retroactive Public Goods Funding (RetroPGF):a retroactive grant model from OptimismCollective for public goods.

The OP Stack is a development kit that allows anyone to build an Ethereum L2 like Polygon CDK or Arbitrum Orbit. Superchain is a network that is built using OP Stack and is more tightly coupled with OP Mainnet.
