Good morning.
I’m Mitsui, a web3 researcher.

Today I researched “Buidlpad.”

The Return of the ICO Era

TL;DR

  • Buidlpad is a token launch platform founded in 2024 by Erick Zhang, former head of Binance Launchpad. It aims to correct the over-reliance on venture capital and champions the principle of “community-driven fundraising.”

  • We adopt a KYC-based oversubscription fundraising model emphasizing fairness and transparency, providing a mechanism for individual investors to participate in promising projects at low valuations.

  • The HODL (staking) feature provides liquidity support and rewards before and after token issuance, while also accommodating early-stage and small-scale projects through derivative platforms like Vibe.

What is Buidlpad?

Buidlpad is a cryptocurrency token launch platform founded in 2024 by Erick Zhang (founder of Nomad Capital), formerly the head of Binance Launchpad.

The primary goal is to correct the imbalance in token distribution, which has traditionally favored venture capitalists and speculators targeting airdrops, and to pursue “community-led” fundraising. Specifically, the philosophy is to provide opportunities for small individual investors to participate in promising projects early and at low valuations, thereby correcting the distortions caused by VC dominance while fostering long-term alignment of interests between projects and their communities.

Therefore, we prioritize transparent information disclosure and rigorous project screening, handling only high-quality projects.

◼️Mechanism

Participants must first complete pre-registration and KYC. They undergo identity verification through the KYC gateway provided by the organizers to prevent multiple accounts and civil attacks. Additionally, residents of certain regions with strict securities regulations, such as the United States and China, are ineligible to participate.Restricting eligible countriesWe also take care to ensure legal compliance.

Next, when fundraising begins for desired projects, funds are committed. The fundraising method is oversubscription-based. If the total amount applied for exceeds the target amount, allocations are made proportionally, and the excess amount is automatically refunded. This two-stage process (KYC registration → fund commitment period → result allocation) aims to avoid gas wars and bot participation under a first-come-first-served model, ensuring fairness and stability.

Each project has its own detailed page where participants can check the current status and commit funds.

  • Status: Current Status

  • Target: Maximum funding amount for applications (overall)

  • Total Subscription: Current Subscription Amount

  • Completion Rate

Additionally, Buidlpad boasts “robust Sybil protection (eliminating fraudulent multiple applications)” and has implemented proprietary fraud detection technology and account scoring alongside KYC. By eliminating practices like queue-jumping with multiple accounts and farming activities targeting airdrops, it aims to distribute tokens to genuinely interested individual investors.
